49th Annual Greek Holiday review

I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I signed up to take online classes. I'm sure the intention was bold & noble but it's become a serious drag. So, there I am on Friday afternoon/evening plowing through this college algebra quiz site, and my patience and composure are wearing thin because the damn thing has these subtle derisive little prompts when you provide an incorrect answer.

After about 15 of these exercises (I'm not going to admit how long that took to complete), I start screaming and throwing pens across the room; it had been a long day, I work nights.

In lieu of a volleyball named Wilson, I then began a half serious argument with Kirby my vacuum cleaner, to ascertain when I was going to plausibly use any of this crap in a real life situation and the scene kind of nose-dived after that.

Time to get some fresh air.

THE GREEK HOLIDAY! YES! That's this weekend!!Of course, the bike ride to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church would be a nice way to purge all thoughts of the multiplication of improper fractions.

If you don't know already the address is 1206 South Guthrie (two blocks west of 11th & Denver) and parking seemed a little tight. Fortunately, most of the nearby residents didn't appear too upset that folks were lined up the blocks and hiking there.

Admission is only $2, and really most everything there seems pretty reasonable. Of course the line for food is crazy-long in the main tent, but I didn't go with this option this year because I showed up late and the line was extended outside the tent past the face-painting lady.

"THE SQUID SHACK"So, here's a tip, if you like seafood, there's also a little stand right behind the main tent on the west side where you can get a basket of fried calamari for $6!Highly tasty. For about $10 I had dinner & a show because the Alpha Omega Dancers came on soon after I sat down and did their thing.

Cool stuff. I'd like to bust some of these moves out the next time I go to a club, just to mess with people, might be fun.

This is on the North end of the event.
Next, the Greek Bakery Market. Wow. What else do you have to say? Amazing stuff, I think every bit of it is homemade or on premises, I don't know, but damn, it's good stuff. They also have a coffee stand which serves VENIZELOS. Again, damn good. Technically this is Turkish coffee but it goes perfectly with all of their pastries.

They also had a mini Greek grocery market and some interesting jewelry, and the standard t-shirt's & souvenirs you might expect.

To conclude the evening, I stopped by the main building to check out their sanctuary. If you go to the Greek Holiday, you should see this out of curiosity or respect. The staff and the priests were friendly and it's a beautiful and interesting place to visit.

Hope you make it out here this year.
