"And now, my beauties, something with poison in it, I think. With poison in it, but attractive to the eye, and soothing to the smell."
[Wicked Witch of the West cackles]

So I found out the other day we've been doing this all wrong. Don't get me wrong, beer & chicken wings is sweet respite after working all night, but it's the wrong approach for evaluating beer. I had dinner at Kilkenney's recently and of course they serve a little basket of bread with your drinks.

Holy crap, man. That's it! A little bread opens the palate and the difference is similar to the way the scenes in The Wizard of Oz looked in Kansas versus Oz. So, before MJ stopped by for this week's visit, I ran into a Reasor's on a Sunday morning at 7am and demanded a toaster. The first person I encountered didn't actually work for Reasor's and I think I scared the hell out of her.

On to the beer review:

Leinenkugel's Classic Amber
The Appearance: Medium foam, very clear, a honey-amber color.
The Nose: Smooth and clean.
The Taste: Hoppy and light.
The Aftertaste: A little sharp.

Tulsa's very own, Marshall Brewing Company, Big Jamoke
The Appearance: A heavy chocolate-colored foam that settles into a very dark brew.
The Nose: Sharp & fragrant with hints of smokey yeast.
The Taste: A rich dark cola flavor that was not sweet. The body was pleasantly bitter with a slight caramel texture.
The Aftertaste: Lingering hops; kind of tangy at the finish.
Overall: Damn good; Marshall's has done it again. This had a very complex arrangement; definitely seems like a winter or autumn beer in my opinion. This would probably go great with beef stew or an Irish boxty.

Maredsous Abbaye-Abdij Blonde Blond Ale
The Appearance: Very frothy vanilla-colored foam. The brew is semi-cloudy, dark amber in color.
The Nose: We agreed this beer has a very faint, almost common aroma.
The Taste: Very smooth, very smooth indeed. Kind of reminded us of getting a cream soda from Petrik Drug back in the old days, an extinct small town pharmacy with a marble-topped counter.
The Aftertaste: Very mild, almost transparent.
