The Third Shifter's Food & Drink Review

FROM THE ARCHIVES: Series Three:

For a while now, MJ & I have been getting together after work at my place to decompress, talk about life for a while and have a drink or two & some dinner, or breakfast, whatever you want to call it; modern grammar does not seem to compensate much for those who work the off-shifts.

Anyway, today I made a big ol' helpin' of hot wings at 6:30 in the morning and we tried three different brews I found at Grand Vin in Utica Square.

First up: St. Peter's CREAM STOUT:

I really have mixed feelings about this one. The aroma smells like, well, it smells like a fart, or maybe a funny chemical odor. The taste however is deep and mellow with a sweet and smoky aftertaste. Honestly, I think you would seriously have to LOVE beer to have an appreciation for this one.

Next: Framboise Lambic, Belgian Framboise Beer

I hope you like raspberries because the aroma, taste and aftertaste are just that, and plenty of it. Not that that's a bad thing, but I found it somewhat limiting to the overall composition of the flavor. Still, it was GREAT with spicy hot wings. (As I recall, my friend Colleen detests the taste of raspberries, always has. So as a friendly warning C, stay the hell away from this stuff. Likewise, if you find a beer that tastes like green beans, please let me know. Thanks.)

And last but absolutely not least: St. Bernardus, Abt 12

Holy Cats man! This stuff is amazing!
I've been lamenting the fact that Gran Vin can't get Kellerbrau in Oklahoma now for whatever reason. If anyone finds a bottle of that, buy it, buy it, do not hesitate. Get it really cold and then let it take you to a happy place. In fact, buy a few extras and contact me, I'll buy them from you. Anyway, St. Bernardus, this beer has a wonderfully complex aroma and flavor, brewed in the classic "Dubbel" style of Belgium's best Abbey ales. The aftertaste is warm and smells like an old forest.

Try these out, hope you enjoy!
